Early walnut strong box or chest with molding around the top.  This would have been used to transport and keep safe valuables of some kind, as evidenced by the impressive hardware used and the thickness of the sides, top, and bottom.  The strap hinges are heavy iron and original, and being mounted on the interior, help to make this chest almost impenetrable.  The corners are reinforced with iron that goes down into the center of the wood, and the lock is original and heavy also.  The interior features a till.  Ball feet are replacements.   C. 1850.
